2010-Nov.12 & 13 Start of Quilt #2 "Butterfly"

Today, Friday, I started quilt #2. This one is a reversible quilt. I am going this one alone. Meaning, that I am reading books and reading directions off the internet. No teacher on this one. It is dark purple squares and light purple squares on one side; and the other side has pink squares and pink print squares. This one is already a very special quilt for me, because it will be for my sweetie, Jacquelyn, so it has turn out great for her.

So here it is, Saturday and it is coming along great, even if I do say so myself.

Pink on 1 side. . . . . Purple on the other side
OR is it Purple on 1 side . . . and Pink on the "other side".

Reversible. . . get it. Either side is the right side. Cool, huh!?!

I've got the batting done. And now to "quilt" it....With Pink Thread and Green Thread and I get to use ALL those decorative stitches on my machine. WOW!

And I think I will use green sashing and binding on my quilt. It will bring out the green on the pink butterfly print fabric. I hope.

Oh wow! Moving right along now. I have 1 row done. This is so cool.

November 20 & 21, 2010

I am getting this quilt done, slowly but surely. This weekend, I finished the sashing on all the rows of my quilt.

And I even put 2 rows together. Two (2) rows together and five (5) TO GO! But it will be done before you know it. I just can't wait to give it to Jacquelyn. Although, it's a little late for her 9th Birthday. But I sure hope she forgives me when I give it to her. It's all been sewn with ALL MY LOVE for her! I hope she knows that and will remember that when she wraps herself in this blanket.

2010-Oct.31 This is no trick today- I FINISHED-YEAH!

My Friend, Dolores and I went back to our teacher, Jean, for our next step. This step is to pin..... I laid the backing on the floor, then tape it to the floor with blue painters tape, then lay the batting right on top of that and then lay the quilt top on top and pin it. I used 4 boxes of pins for this. I think this was tougher than cutting and sewing the blocks. It is very hard for me to get on the floor and it took me . . . . . . . "f-o-r-e-v-e-r" to pin and it was hot on the floor and people kept coming in to the store. A little girl had the nerve to step on my blanket. And I told her, "Excuse me! I am trying to make a quilt and you just stepped on it." She looked at me, then at my quilt and said, "Oh, I'm sorry." But it sounded like she really wasn't and she didn't understand why I said something to her. DUH! this is my 1st quilt, little girl!

My quilt rolled up in my bag. So now that I am at home, what to do, what to do!!

I am tying my quilt - this time anyway! I wanted to know how it was for my Grandmother and their Mothers. To do this by hand. But I didn't have a frame, I just laid it out on my table. I am so excited about getting this far on my quilt!

Next step - - the binding. I have bought material and will make my own binding.

OMG! I am done. Lookie, Lookie at what I did. . .

I see that quilters name their quilts....I will name this one...... "DragonFly".

And my next project will be . . . oops. . . it's a surprise. But I already bought the material. And this one will be a different kind of quilt than my 1st one. This is so exciting!

2010-Oct.3 Been Busy This Weekend

I started a new project - I have always wanted to learn to make a quilt.

My dream came true this weekend! Thanks to Dolores - I work with her and she a great person and friend. We were talking one day about Grandchildren - She will be having her "1st" in February 2011. She mentioned that her sisters told her she needs to make a baby quilt. I told here that I would like to learn too! She set it up and we went to a class. We were there from 10 a.m. until about 4:15 p.m. The teacher, Jean, helped me pick out a pattern. She said it would be easy and after I started cutting, she realized that it was "ALOT" of cutting. So we set it up to go back in 3 weeks, but I couldn't wait that long. As soon as I got home, I went back to work. And worked until 11:30 p.m. I woke up Sunday morning about 9:00 a.m. and went back to work. And Guess What?!? I finished the top part of MY 1ST QUILT!! I am so excited.

Oh WOW! I am so excited - I have finished my FIRST QUILT TOP - I just can't get over this!!

And it all started when Dolores told me she was going to be a Grandmother (her 1st one!)

She said that her sisters told her that she had to make the baby a quilt, and then she said that she didn't know how and would have to learn. I told her that I wanted to learn too! She setup a class for us and we went! We started at 10:00 am and left about 4:00 pm. I got home and continued working on it. Then I got up early Sunday and didn't even eat until I finished it!WOW!
