2009-Sept.09 5th Grade

Joseph is having a great 5th grade. We have had an open house for teachers to let parents know what they expect from the students / field trips they will be taking / AR -Accelerated Reading- for points ( which if they achieve 70 points there will be a big party at the year end ).

We are also talking about where Joseph would like his birthday party &/or what he would like to do. And also what he might want for his birthday.

We are loving the rain that fell this past week. The "cooler" weather - meaning NO triple digit heat. I am so ready for fall weather. We have so much to do outside-that we haven't done due to the heat.

Well, here it is ....finally! School bells ringing once again. Joseph was really excited about going back school. In fact, he says that he wishes that school was year 'round. He liked going to F.W. Gross, which was a year 'round school when he was there - Pre-K thru 3rd, but they were changing to traditional school the year we were moving to Mission Valley.

Joseph likes school which makes it easier for me. He rides the bus to school in the morning and in the evening stays at school under the care of the YMCA until I pick him up. Well, either me or Janet - our neighbor and good friend. Her son, Bobby, and Joseph hang out. So we help each other out picking up kids, watching them when one of us needs some help or needs to run errands, etc. It's wonderful to have someone that you know you can depend on or know they will help if the need arises.

Yes, it's that time again. Summer is at hand. Joseph is upset because he will be at the YMCA summer program once again. He gets tired of going there. But it can't be helped with both of us working. I don't like the heat of the summer, but I am going to try this summer to take some time off and take Joseph on a little trip somewhere. Maybe somewhere cool. Is there a place like that close by? NOT!

Anyway, I wanted to show off the yearbook from his school. I took pictures of the pages that we found Joseph (& myself) on. Wow, he must know when they are gonna take pictures and he made sure he was there - haha! The yearbook is so cute - I like that "cool" colorful look. It brought back some memories.

New School for Joseph

Joseph started his 4th grade year at Mission Valley School. He is really enjoying it and likes his teacher. Her name is Ms. Troell. She is wonderful and it is a good fit - a strong teacher and a student that likes to talk. So she is trying to steer him in the right direction. I took him to school for the 1st few days, BUT now he is riding the bus to school. He has always wanted to ride the bus to school. They pick him up at our driveway between 6:50 am - 7 am, they get to school and he goes to the cafeteria to wait for the bell to ring. They start school at about 7:15 am & they like students in their room at 7:30 am. School gets out of school at 2:50 pm. He has already brought home a progress report and has done GREAT in all his subjects. But, of course, I tell him to keep trying harder in all he does.
