And then later in the evening, when Bryan and Krystyn walked out side, Jackson followed, but with no shoes on. Krystyn told him to go get his shoes, but, oops-too late-"Sting".....

Unfortunately, this is little Jackson's left foot-he stepped on an asp or something-Mom & Dad aren't sure, but they took the stinging away with snuff-which Bryan was "all to kind" to chew before he put it on his sons foot. I think I would have put some water on the tabacco instead of in my mouth-wouldn't that have been better? Oh, Well, Bryan wanted to "chew" anyway.

2010-Apr.17 Joseph's Prize for his Hard Work

We went ahead and let Joseph spend some of his money that he received for raising his 4-H Chickens. I tried to talk him into a Wii, but he wasn't havin' any.
Oh well, I tried. He just wasn't going to let us have any peace until we gave in.
(FYI - added 2 weeks later, Joseph told me, "Nana, I should have gotten a Wii." I can't believe he admitted that to me. I just told him, "Didn't I tell ya, I tried to, but you didn't listen."
Maybe next time, HE WILL. And that's a big MAYBE!

2010-Mar.20 Making Rounds or "Crazy 8s"

WOW! What a major rain that blew threw this morning! We sat on our porch (coffee in hand,of course), blankets, and binoculars. All the little creatures that were out - the cardinals, other small birds, ducks on our lake, and a white crane trying to eat the small fish. Reading the paper, Johnny cut out a coupon for Dairy Treet and I was up and getting dressed in a flash. YUM! I love those Dairy Treet hanburgers. We picked Joseph up from his friends where he spent the night after baseball practice, went straight to Dairy Treet, ate thos yummy burgers, got a few Thank you Gifts for the donors and put them together with a card, and off we went to those companies. We did a figure eight in town driving in crazy eight fashion here, and then there. Back & forth. Dairy Treet, $ General, then to Best Buy (at the Mall), then to Chick-Fil-A, then back by the mall to Petsmart (for Kiwi Bird), then Walgreens, and to NorthSide Ranch, Pet & Garden Center, and the oops back up Main Street to Golden Crescent, driving home, then oops, got to go to the Auto Parts store over on Navarro and then back to Lowe's. Wow! I'm dizzy. Dropping Joseph back to his friends house and HOME. I think a nap is in order! Don't YOU agree?

2010-Mar.7 Joseph's Chickens PayOff

Joseph delivered his chickens to the buyers today. Of course, we drove him. (haha!) Joseph brought his buyers a fruit tray and "Thank-you" card.

We barely got back in the truck when Joseph was asking when we can take him to the store. He wants to get an X-Box. We'll see!

2010-Mar.01 AUCTION DAY

Well, Auction Day is here! We are all excited too!
Joseph is dressed and ready to show his chickens.
It's 4 p.m. now. We are at the Community Center Dome.
But first, we wait and wait and wait some more.
We get the papers with the . . . . . .
"Disposition of Animals Sold at auction"
There are 13 pages and we are on . . . . . .
page 1 and Joseph is # 212. And did I mention it's about 4 p.m.

Okay, it has started now 5 p.m.
It's now 5:35 p.m. and we are on # 14 - 1/2 down the page.
Page 2 - # 42 6:15 p.m.
Page 7 -almost at the bottom # 150 - 8:10 p.m. and 3 pages to go.
WooHoo! page 9 8:50 p.m. # 191 - we are getting closer and
Johnny has gone to the back with Joseph to get ready. (I just hope
that chicken is still breathing...)
OMG! 9:15 p.m. and they announce
# 212 Joseph Richardson with his 13th place broiler. OMG!
I can't stand it. . . hurry up people, start hollering those $$$.

Yeah! Joseph got $ 600, then 650, then 700, anybody for 750.

Rats!! no other takers. But we will take it.

SOLD to Leita Farms for $ 700. THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU!!

That will go in a savings account for Joseph - for college. - RIght !?!? Joseph!!
We're done. We stuck around for about 20 more. Johnny went to
get the information that we need to get in touch with our buyers.
But not tonight!!
It's 10:00 p.m. and we are headed home.

2010-Feb.26 Letter to Bidders

Hi:
My name is Joseph Richardson. I am 11 years old and in the 5th grade at
Mission Valley Elementary School. I raised chickens for the Mission Valley 4-H and showed 3 chickens at the 2010 Victoria Live Stock Show. I placed 13th with my chickens.

I had a great time raising these chickens and learned a lot about them. I hope to be back next year at the Victoria Live Stock Show and I am already making plans on what animal I would like to raise and show in the 2011 Live Stock Show.

I would like to invite you to come out to the auction on Monday, March 1, 2010 and place a bid on my chickens.

2010-Feb.25 The Big Day is Here!! Stock Show Time

Joseph's # for the judging at the LiveStock Show

For his 1st year at the Victoria Live Stock Show, Joseph did great. The VLS had all the pens set-up for the chickens. We put our 3 chickens in the pen, set up the water & feed bowl, & crossed our fingers. We waited until 11:30 a.m. until they called for the "Broilers". The Bishops (Leah was showing her chickens, too!) rounded up 2 "helpers" for Joseph to show his chickens. Thank you to the Bishops for that! and all their help, and suggestions too. Joseph's helpers were Lauren and Dillon (they were each showing other animals at the VLS. Those kids had to hold those chickens for about 45 minutes while the judge went around checking out all the chickens. There were 18 entries and each kid had 3 chickens to show. The judge picked out about 9 kids and their chickens and Joseph was in that pick. Well, we thought that was good. But, that was the smaller chicken line. But that's okay because he still made it. HE WON 13th PLACE & THAT'S GREAT. HE MADE THE SALE. We will be able to sell his chickens on Monday at the auction. Yea!! Way to go Joseph!!
